Reflection

I pause here to reflect on the past few weeks on what I have learned from the ICT course. The course was intensive and the pace was hectic. With all the articles to be read, literacies to be learned, Web 2.0 paper to write and lessons to plan I wondered how I was going to get everything done. However I have survived so far and intend to do so for the remainder of the programme. What I enjoyed was the lab sessions where we actually learned the new technologies. Sometimes I was lost but I thank God for my kind colleagues as Delores and Trummane who assisted unrelentingly. They took the time to peer teach me what they knew. I realised that in my classes in which I plan to use some of this technology in the future I would need to utilise the swifter ones who are always on top of their game. I do not underestimate the importance of peer tutoring.
I am amazed at the availability of the technology which is at our fingertips. I particularly like the interactive nature of the wiki, and the ebooks. So here's to computing in the clouds.

  1. Hi Jenny, I feel the same way. Like you, I have been through a range of emotions going through this course. At times I have been excited, those were the times when I experienced success in what I was doing in the lab exercises or when I worked on my own and realised that I was succeeding with the technology.

I became frustrated at times because I felt overwhelmed. This did not last very long because I knew I had to master the technology. Friends like you, Roland, Tumanne and Dolores together with Cherisse helped to bring me closer to the goal of understanding and using the technology. as you can tell I am becoming more comfortable as I become more literate.

The challenge now is to use the technology in our lesson plans. I am hopeful. I am moving from a position of strength. I know the Web 2.0 technologies that were taught in class and their uses. What I have to do now is to plan my lessons, choose my technology and ensure that my work is of a high standard and submit on time.

    Are you hearing Bandura, Self-efficacy?

Keep the faith! We can do it!

  2. Hi Jennifer,

Reading your post gives me pause to also reflect on the relationships we established on this course. As Reading Specialists, those links would become more significant as we encounter challenges working in the field.

It is reassuring to know that our colleagues are so willing to assist in any way they can. I have been the recipient of much help, from an encouraging word to walking me through a process in layman (read elementary) language.

I am encouraged by the potential support of over ninety professionals upon whom I can rely when I experience the highs and lows in my role as Reading Rpecialist.
